Both teams did exceptionally well on the track where they had been practicing all season, with many members qualifying for post-season events.
For the women's team, Carter Hamill '05 led the way in the 5000m by breaking the school record by 20 seconds and qualifying for the NCAAs with her finishing time of 17:15.
This was a brilliant performance as it was Hamill's first time running this race on a track.
"She ran a ridiculous race," said tri-captain Emily Lobsenz '02. "Carter ran exceptionally well."
Tri-captain Amie Shei '02 won the 600m and posted a strong performance in the 200m and in the swift leadoff leg of the 4 x 400m. In the 1000m, Laurel Kilgour '03 took second place, with Diana Rancourt '02 coming in .07 seconds behind her in third.
Alison Rodriguez '05 joined these runners in qualifying for the Division III New Englands.
The 800m was as action-packed as it was last week with Becca Woo '02, Kate Hamill '03 and Aly Venti '04 turning in fast times. The trio all qualified for Division III New Englands.
Cecily Brewer '02 broke her personal record with a 10:52.99 in the 3000m. This was an accomplished feat as she had just broken her former personal record just two weeks ago. Lee-Jay Henry '05 once again had a strong showing in the long jump and triple jump, as well as almost winning the 55m.
The men turned in equally impressive performances. John Stanton-Geddes '04 had an outstanding day, breezing through a win in the 1500 and breaking his personal record.
"[He] had been planning on running a great race, which is really hard to do since the expectations are higher," said Lobsenz. "He ran a nearly perfect race."
Unfortunately, Stanton-Geddes missed the qualifying mark for the NCAA's by less than .3 seconds. Nonetheless, he qualified for the Open New Englands. In the next three meets, Stanton-Geddes will continue to try for the qualifying time.
Later on that day, he also won the 800m, setting a new personal record in the event.
In the shorter distances, the men had a number of successful performances as well. Janak Chandrasoma '04 won the 400m and the 200m and led off a leg of the 4 x 400m relay that would finish second.
Jack Morgan '05, tri-captain Jacob Cooper '02 and Doug Norton '05 went 1-2-3 in a hard-fought 600m race. Jay Wagstaff '05 broke his personal record in third place in the 55m, as well as finishing fourth after Eric Osborne '04 in the 200m.
Frontrunner Dave Molina '05 won the 1000m and lowered his personal record, while Rusty Ryan '02 placed second in the 3000m, also lowering his personal record. Zeke Phillips '05 and Matt Katz '05 finished with a strong second and third in the 5k.
The indoor track team is at a high point with outstanding runners in all aspects. "We have a really strong, motivated team this year," said Lobsenz. "I think both the men's and women's teams are the best I've ever seen them."
The Division III New Englands are next for qualified runners on both the men and women's team. They will be held at Bates College for the men and University of Southern Maine for the women this coming Friday and Saturday.
