Only one thing stands between the Lord Jeffs and their second appearance in the Elite Eight, between Coach Hixon and his Amherst record 23rd win, between a happy Friday night in Western New York and a long bus ride home. But that one thing, namely SUNY Brockport, is the owner of a 27-2 record, the SUNYAC Championship and a sharpshooter shooting over 50 percent from the field and over 40 percent from three-point range. That player is Mike Medbury, a 6'5", 210 lb. power forward. But Amherst has ample firepower of its own. Tri-captain Steve Zieja '03 has averaged 26.0 points per game in Amherst's four postseason games and big man Pat Fitzsimons '03 has helped out with 13.0 points per game, a handful of two-handed jams and two particularly memorable free throws, over the same four game stretch.
