Game of the Week: Women's Swimming at NCAA Division III
By Sports Staff
The women's swimming and diving team sends its biggest contingent ever to the NCAA Division III Championships this year. Leading the team is Morgan Bayer '03, the reigning two-time National Champion in the 200-yard butterfly. In this go around, Bayer will get a chance to win her third national title. The Jeffs are coming off an impressive second place finish in the NESCAC Championships. Amherst defeated traditional swimming power Middlebury College by over 100 points. A number of freshmen swimmers shone at NESCACs. Freshman phenom Rebecca Stein finished second in the 50-yard freestyle. On the second day of the meet, fellow freshman Alexis Johnston turned in an incredible performance in the 1000-yard freestyle to capture another second place. Though the younger members have performed well this season, look for seasoned veterans such as co-captains Ali Brown '02 and Sarah Malmfeldt '02 to have something to say at NCAAs, too.
