Coming off of an inspired meet at Little IIIs, the women's track team traveled to Bates College this past weekend for the NESCAC Champi-onship meet. Despite the cold weather, snow and hail, the women competed to win and had many outstanding performances.

Freshman standout Lee-Jay Henry once again dominated in a variety of events. She placed second in the 100m hurdles and fourth in both the long and triple jumps. Henry's mark of 11.22m set a new freshman record for the Jeffs. Senior tri-captain Amie Shei also put in a strong showing and snagged two seventh place finishes in the 200m and 400m events.

Rebecca Woo '02 led an Amherst-laden 800m with a fourth place finish. Her time of 2:17.61 shattered the previous school record by nearly three seconds. Laurel Kilgour '03 followed close behind in seventh place and seniors Diana Rancourt and Annie Perez just barely missed scoring points with their ninth and 10th place respective finishes.

Woo attributed her teammates as helpful support. "Having a competitive field and a teammate to run next to made all the difference," said Woo.

With such a strong showing in the individual events, there was little surprise when the 4x800m relay team of Woo, Kilgour, Perez and Kate Hamill '03 ran to third place and shattered the school record by five seconds with a time of 9:24.84.

Carter Hamill '05 broke the Amherst 10k record by one and a half minutes and automatically qualified for Nationals. Hamill also earned points on Sunday by finishing seventh in the 1,500m with a time of 4:53.60. Senior tri-captain Emily Lobsenz finished sixth in the 10k race and qualified provisionally for Nationals while Alison Dimon '03 finished 11th with a time of 40:09.60 in her first time competing in the event.

"Coach Erik Nedeau thought the 10k would be good to prepare me for the 5k, which I will run at Nationals," said Hamill. "Now the 5k won't seem so long."

Kate Hamill and Helen Dole '04 both turned in strong performances in the 400m hurdles, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively. Erinn White '04 finished ninth and just missed scoring in the 3,000m steeplechase, which is a new event to the NESCAC Championship this year. Although she may not have tallied any points for the Jeffs, White's time of 11:49.45 provisionally qualified her for Nationals.

Both of the other relay teams ran well. The 4x100m team of Henry, Kate Hamill, Shei and Kate Ferris '05 placed fifth and the 4x400m team of Perez, Kilgour, Hamill and Shei placed seventh.

The women are headed to Springfield College this Saturday for the NCAA Division III championship meet.
