The men's and women's cross country teams each competed at UMASS-Dartmouth on Saturday, with each team earning mixed results.

The men's cross country team placed an impressive fourth behind strong competition from the Coast Guard Academy and Trinity and Connecticut Colleges, while the women followed up last week's second place finish with a third this week.

John Stanton-Geddes '04 led the men, running an impressive time of 25:40 to place fifth overall. "Five miles of racing is a lot. You have to pace yourself, but you have to race at the same time," said Stanton-Geddes.

Michael Page '05 followed Stanton-Geddes in 12th place overall in a time of 26:00. Matt Katz '05 was next, placing 13th in 26:04. Carson Taylor '03 and Cameron Millard '05 finished in 27:07 and 27:13, respectively.

The women's team had another strong race Saturday. Coming off a very tough week of training for the end of the season competitions, Coach Erik Nedeau put his team through rigorous workouts in preparation.

Carter Hamill '05, the lead runner for the women, had an impressive race and finished second with a time of 17:34. "I was pleased with how the race turned out," said Hamill. "However, I was a little frustrated with my last mile and didn't really have a kick; but my time was still good."

For the third weekend in a row, Hamill battled Springfield College's Marissa Clapp for the individual title.

The rest of the team also finished well, led by Erinn White '04, who finished 14th with a time of 18:37, her fastest time this season. Jessamyn Conell-Price '06 and Jenny Horowitz '06 finished next with times of 19:11 and 19:22, respectively.

Co-captain Alison Dimon '03 finished the race with a time of 19:23 and Laura Kilgour '03 followed in 19:24.

"I think everyone ran very well, particularly because it was such a hot day," said Hamill. "The course was flat and fast, so times seemed good. However, I think people were tired coming off of such a tough week of practices."

Both the men and women travel to NESCAC rival Tufts University next Saturday in hopes of another great race.

"This week is a down week for us, so the next race at Tufts should feel a little better," said Hamill.
