The men's golf team competed at the Williams Invitational this weekend, finishing 15th, while the women placed third at the Bryant Invitational. Rain ended the men's tournament prematurely after only 18 holes at the Taconic Golf Club. The tournament was called due to the unplayable conditions. Amherst's 25-over par 309 landed them well behind first place Emory University, which finished at an incredible 1-over par 285.

Divisional rivals Williams and Babson Colleges tied for fourth place, 10 strokes better than Amherst. "We were all looking forward to improving the second day," said co-captain Jude Volek '03. "I think we were all confident a second day would have been to our advantage."

The Jeffs were led by Ballaban, who shot a 75, good enough for 28th place overall and Volek's solid 76. Justin Sharaf '05 contributed a 77 to the effort. The team hopes these individual performances will get them to the top of the leaderboard next weekend at the NESCAC Tournament.

The women continued their domination of their divisional rivals this weekend, topping all other Division III schools. Amherst improved 15 strokes on Sunday to take third place overall behind Florida Gulf Coast and Fairfield Universities.

Amherst's recovery was punctuated by co-captain Jeannie Limpert '03, who improved from 104 on Saturday to 86 on Sunday. The Jeffs attribute their success on Sunday to more conservative play.

The ladies tee up next weekend at their home away from home, the Orchards Golf Club. Confidence is high and with good reason: Amherst has defeated every Division III team they've faced thus far. "We are riding on a lot of momentum going into next weekend," said co-captain Katie Gravel '03. "We are at the Orchards, the site of our third place national finish and some of our better finishes in the last three years."
