Women's cross country: Harriers eagerly await Little IIIs

The women's cross country team placed 23rd out of 42 teams at the New England Cross Country Championships two weekends ago. The race consisted of both Division I and Division III schools, which added more competition to the race.

Carter Hamill '05 earned All-New England Honors at the race with her amazing 14th place finish in the women's individual race.

"I was okay with how things turned out for me, but feel like my racing could still step up a level. Overall, everyone ran very well in what was a very quick and hard-paced race." Hamill turned in a time of 17:52. Helen Dole '04 finished next with a time of 19:35 to place 126th. Margaret Davis '06, co-captain Alison Dimon '03 and Jenny Horowitz '06 had times of 19:47, 19:54 and 19:59, respectively. Rounding out the pack was freshman Jessamyn Conell-Price with a time of 20:26 to help the Jeffs place 23rd.

"Opens went well, but we were missing a number of runners due to the fact that it was a Friday meet and people had classes," said Hamill. The harsh weather affected the team's race, but they still managed to run well and place favorably.

The women were scheduled to race this past weekend, but Coach Erik Nedeau canceled the race because the women had already run a recent 6k race. The break in the schedule has allowed the women some rest and more preparation for Little IIIs, being hosted this weekend by rival Williams College.

The team is looking forward to Little IIIs, which is a small and competitive meet. "Things should hopefully start to come together as we get into the later part of our season," said Hamill. "Looking forward to this weekend, having an off weekend this past weekend will hopefully work to our advantage."
