Bub's Player of Week: Katherine Ryan '03
By Alison White, Staff Writer
As we all watched the games on the athletic fields last week, the rain was coming steadily and the sky looked quite bleak. Bub's hoped that the field hockey team would win without delay, but instead their game was extended into over-time play. The score was zero-zero, Amherst desperately needed a hero. But in that rainy mess, the outcome was anyone's guess. In came Katherine Ryan, a senior on the team, she's been a four-year member and player of high esteem. Now the Ephs can't be forgotten-they're a team with motivation. They came into the game ranked 19th in the nation. But Ryan wasn't worried and she played and played and played, and though the Ephs were considered better, she was not afraid. Seventy-four minutes into the game, with both teams feeling tired and weary, Ryan found the back of the net, leaving Williams teary. In classic style she broke loose, the goalie challenged, but could not produce. Ryan scored, and Amherst won. Now the quest for NESCACs has just begun. Great last home game Kath, Bub's is so proud of you. Beat Trinity on Saturday, just play like you always do.
