Carter Hamill '05 raced to a 10th place finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships hosted by St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Carter's performance earned her All-American honors.

The Amherst women's team did not qualify for the race, but Hamill's performance at the Regionals sent her to Nationals. In the 6-km race, Hamill finished with a fabulous time of 21:52.3, only 1:32 behind the winner of the individual race, Missy Buttry from Wartburg College. NESCAC rival, Williams College won the team championship.

At the 2001 Championships, Hamill finished 18th overall, which also earned her All-American honors. Hamill's finish is the best since Berit Ashla in 1985.

Hamill battled with runners from Middlebury College and Williams runner for 10th place and pulled ahead in the last 600 meters.

"Carter improved this year, which was promising," said Laurel Kilgour '03. "She had a great season. I think she wished the team was with her at Nationals."

Hamill, who runs cross country and indoor and outdoor track, has yet to have a season at Amherst without an All-American finish.
