Bub's Player of the Week: Steve Zieja '03
By Alison White, Staff Writer
The Amherst men's basketball team is one of the brightest spots of a dreary winter season, and it's due to the play of a certain tri-captain, Bub's can say with reason. That captain is Steve Zieja, now the leading scorer in Amherst history, and how he reached that mark is really no mystery. Against Bates he laid in the ball with just minutes left in the game, giving him 1,552 points to his record-breaking name. Now that Steve has left Jamal Wilson '97 in the dust, the Amherst grad can now only look at Zieja's new mark and lust. Amherst won the game with ease; the 90-60 victory over the Bobcats was really a breeze. Zieja finished with 13 points in the game, but that really pales in comparison to the record to which he now lays claim. Now that the scoring record is out of the way, there are no distractions to lead Zieja or his team astray. The battle for the top of the NESCAC still lies ahead, and undoubtedly the mention of Zieja's name fills opposing teams with dread. Bub's is sure they'll rise to the top because, after all, Zieja and company are the cream of the crop.
