Despite an inspired effort by the Jeffs, Yale dominated the match with their skill and experience. The Bulldogs swept Amherst in three games in every singles slot. Though the final scores didn't show it, Mike Strong '05, co-captain John Holodnak '03 and David Bauer '04 played well in the second, fourth and fifth slots, respectively.
"Going into it, we knew they were a great team and that it would be a really tough match," said Strong. "However, we wanted to play hard in order to practice and prepare for Nationals this coming weekend, which we did."
The Lord Jeffs have two more weekends of play upcoming, in both the National Intercollegiate Squash Racquets Association (NISRA) Team and Individual Championships. The NISRA Team Championship will take place next weekend at Princeton University.
"This weekend we are looking to have a rematch against Williams and beat them," said Strong. "We then hope to win the B division, which would have us finishing top eight in the nation."
