The women's basketball team ended its season last Thursday with a 63-58 loss to Wellesley College. The loss left the Jeffs with a record of 2-7 in NESCAC play and .500 for the season at 12-12.

Although Amherst got off to a great start, going 9-1 in the first half of the season, the Jeffs wilted under tough competition in the NESCAC. They lost six straight, then went 3-5 in their last eight games.

In their most recent loss to Wellesley, guard LaShauna Barboza '04 led the way for the Jeffs, scoring 17 points. Junior center Caitlin Farrell recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.

Wellesley outplayed the Jeffs in the first half and took a commanding 39-25 lead into halftime. Amherst rallied in the second half, tying the game at 53. However, as Marissa McGuire '04 explained, "Our shots just were not falling. It was not a lack of effort."

The loss to Wellesley was characteristic of an inconsistent season. "Typically, you are not going to win a game by playing only one good half," said Katie Latham '06.
