"We had a really strong fall and with a winter filled with swing work, conditioning and weight training we should improve," said Gravel. "Despite not being outside very much this spring, everyone's swings look great and we had some really great rounds in Kiawah."
In Kiawah, the team made its spring debut against Wellesley College at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Turtle Point Golf Course. Gravel and sophomore Meg Sullivan fired matching scores of 91 to lead the Jeffs, despite losing 374-359 to Wellesley.
Coach Morgan considers the women a group of dedicated individuals, ready to overcome difficult playing conditions. "With the difficulties of the weather this spring, we are not quite tournament ready. It will be interesting to see how we perform against our opponents, but I know they have had similar difficulties," said Morgan.
"I have a good feeling because our team has practiced in the rain, snow, sleet and cold wind and have learned a great deal about ignoring the weather," Morgan added.
The team hopes to secure several victories this season, aiming to garner top honors at the Brown Invitational, Wellesley Invitational, Massachusetts State Championship, and Northeast Intercollegiate Championship. "The Wellesley tournament in two weeks should be our best bet. We won their tournament in the fall and will be looking to come out on top again," said Gravel.
