Game of the Week: Football vs. Bowdoin
By George Doty, Managing Sports Editor
The football team will play its first home game of the young season this Saturday against Bowdoin College. The Jeffs will be looking for their 15th consecutive win at Pratt Field, a streak that dates back to the 1999 season. Bowdoin's football program has struggled recently, winning just two games over the past three seasons, but the Polar Bears played surprisingly well against Williams College last week, dropping a 24-13 decision. While inexperienced at the quarterback position, Bowdoin boasts a powerful ground game led by halfback Rob Patchett, who rushed for 118 yards last week. If Bowdoin is to have a chance against Amherst, Patchett will have to have a big game. The Jeffs too will look to run the ball. Quad-captain Fletcher Ladd '04 will lead an Amherst rushing attack that accounted for 321 yards against Bates College last week.
