Game of the Week: Men's basketball vs. Wesleyan in NESCAC Tournament
The third-seeded Lord Jeffs will square off against the sixth-seeded Wesleyan University Cardinals for the second weekend in a row in the opening round of the NESCAC Tournament on Feb. 21. Amherst barely escaped a tenacious second-half comeback from Wesleyan on Saturday. After surrendering a 24-point halftime lead to Wesleyan's three-point prowess early in the second half, Amherst held out for an 80-77 victory in the closing seconds on two pressure-filled free throws from guard John Bedford '06. Amherst trounced Wesleyan 108-81 in January, but look for Saturday's postseason contest to retain the flavor of the more recent nailbiter matchup, as Wesleyan has been playing extremely well of late. Amherst enters postseason play looking to avenge regular season losses against top-seeded Williams College and second-seeded Trinity College in later rounds.
