Game of the Week: Men's basketball vs. Trinity in NESCAC Playoffs
The third-seeded Jeffs will go to Williamstown this weekend looking to avenge their only two regular-season losses and take the NESCAC title. Coming off Saturday's 97-65 opening-round drubbing of Wesleyan University, Amherst is poised to battle a second-seeded Trinity College squad that stole a 68-66 contest from the Jeffs at LeFrak two weeks ago. Trinity, which beat Tufts University 72-57 in its first-round match, is coming off a bad loss to Wesleyan to close the regular season, and Amherst's recent trouncing of the Cardinals should give the Jeffs a mental edge. If they pass Saturday's 4 p.m. test against Trinity, the Jeffs will probably go on to face arch-nemesis Williams College on Sunday at noon. Williams, ranked first nationally, needed overtime and a last-second three to survive the Jeffs the last time they met. Amherst will look to ensure that providence does not come again for the Ephs in the NESCAC Finals.
