WOMEN'S TRACK
"The weather was gorgeous, and the women performed well en route to a victory over a talented Wesleyan University squad," said senior co-captain Helen Dole.
The women were paced by three first-place finishes. Carter Hamill '05 won the 1500m, setting a meet record and qualifying provisionally for the NCAA Div. III Championships.
In the same event, Shauneen Garrahan '07 came in second and also qualified provisionally. Margaret Davis '06 won the 5000m race, beating the competition by over 30 seconds, and Alison Rodriguez '05 earned first-place points for the team in the 3000m steeplechase.
"Ali was the only one racing the steeples, but she ran really well for not having anyone to directly compete with," said co-captain Aly Venti '04.
Garrahan also placed fourth in the 400m dash. Lyndsey Scott '06 had an action-packed day as she sprinted her way to second place in the 100m dash, third in the 200m, fourth in the high jump and fifth in the triple jump.
Junior Lee-Jay Henry placed fourth in the 200m and fifth in the long jump. Venti and Erinn White '04 also had fifth place finishes in the 800m and 5000m runs, respectively. Krissy Morin '06 came in third in the 100m hurdles and fifth in the javelin, among her many events.
"Heptathletes Krissy Morin and Lee-Jay Henry competed in a whopping 12 events combined to score key points for our team," said Dole.
"As a whole the team really came together to beat Wesleyan," said Dole. "There were only 12 of us there this weekend and we really proved how much talent we have on such a small team. Some runners like Lee-Jay and Krissy competed in four or five different events, which displays their extensive strength and talent."
MEN'S TRACK
The men also had a number of winning finishes. Junior Dave Molina finished first in the 800m. After a slow first lap, he increased his speed to finish with a strong second lap to win the race.
"Dave Molina ran very well," said senior tri-captain Janak Chandrasoma. "He picked things up and had a monster second lap to become a Little Three champ, a come-from-behind victory. It was an impressive race to watch."
Dave Schreiner '06 won the 5000m, picking up speed each mile and running unchallenged for the rest of the race. L.J. Spinnato '06 won the hammer throw, almost breaking the 150-foot mark.
Chandrasoma took second in the 400m and third in the 200m. His 200m performance was his best time of the season. Junior Jack Morgan finished third, a mere 16 hundredths of a second behind Chandrasoma in the 400m.
"Jack Morgan broke the 50-second barrier for the first time in the 400m, something that has been a very long time coming," said Chandrasoma. "We were proud of his accomplishment, excelling in a race that is not necessarily what he is strongest at."
Junior Jay Wagstaff was a strong presence in the sprints and jumps, grabbing third in the 100m dash and coming in fifth in the 200m, where he broke his personal record.
The team will compete at the Penn Relays this afternoon before heading to Trinity College for the NESCAC Championships this Saturday.
