The Jeffs finished the fall and spring seasons with a record of 8-6. Last fall, the team went 2-1 in dual match play and also won the ECAC North Championships. Though the spring was less successful, Amherst will look to bounce back this fall with a solid core of returning players and some promising newcomers.
Amherst will be counting on Rilla and Babkes to lead the team in doubles play as well as at singles. The pair played first and second singles, respectively, in the spring. Also returning in important roles are senior co-captain Max Rettig, sophomore Jeff Lawrence and junior Jon Godsall. The trio played third, fourth and sixth singles, respectively, during the spring season.
"We have six returning players from the top six and we have a number of freshmen coming in that can contribute to the team," said Head Coach Peter Robson.
This fall the men play just one match, against Brandeis University in addition to the ECAC Championship and the Omni ITA New England Men's Tennis Championship.
Despite the brevity of the season, Amherst has big plans. "[The team's goals are] to be undefeated in the fall and to defend our ECAC title," said Coach Robson.
