Game of the Week: Women's soccer vs. Bates College
By Sarah Rothbard, Managing Sports Editor
The women's soccer team faces off against Bates College in a rematch of 2003's NESCAC Tournament championship game. Amherst steamrolled over Bates on Nov. 9 of last year, winning the NESCAC title with a 6-0 victory. However, Amherst will be without the talent of injured tri-captain Ashley Harmeling '05, who scored three goals in that contest. However, Amherst has a potent scoring threat in Adrienne Showler '05, who scored twice in the opening game. This year, the Jeffs are 1-0 in the league and on the season, while the Bobcats open up their slate this afternoon against St. Joseph's University. Amherst showed grit in its season-opening win over Trinity College on Sept. 11, while Bates is a young and as-yet unproven squad, carrying only four seniors and two juniors on the roster.
