Kristen Raverta '06 and quad-captain Rachel Holt '05 swept number one and two singles, 8-0, respectively.
Two first-years, Alicia Menezes at third singles and Laura Stein at fifth singles, each dropped just one game to win 8-1.
"It was great to see the freshmen come out fired up and play well in their first collegiate match," said Holt.
"It's exciting to be a part of a dedicated team, especially since tennis is usually an individual sport," said Menezes. "Most of the time it is just you and the ball on the court, but now that I have a team and a great coach to back me up I am enjoying a side of tennis that I have never experienced before."
Katie Hudson '07 won fourth singles in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Erin Murphy '05 rounded out the singles, taking number six, 6-3, 6-1.
Holt and Menezes teamed up for first doubles, which they won 8-6 in the only close match of the day. Raverta and Hudson took a decisive 8-0 second doubles victory. Murphy and Stein paired to a 8-2 third doubles win.
Quad-captain Tristan Hedrick '05, who is out with an ankle injury, called the match a nice way for the first-years "to see what a match was like and get some of the first-match butterflies out."
Yesterday the women were forced to postpone the second half of their match against local Div. I team UMass-Amherst due to darkness.
Next weekend the women will compete in the individual Omni ITA tournament at Williams College.
"It will be a good time for many of the players in our lineup to get a sense of who our opponents will be this season and to get more match play against tougher competition," said Holt.
