Div. I St. John's University won the tournament in dominating fashion with a two-day score of 645. Amherst's team scores for both Saturday and Sunday were 355, adding up to a two-day total of 710.
"The weekend went pretty well," said senior co-captain Meg Sullivan. Though Amherst tied Mt. Holyoke in scoring, "They actually finished ahead of Mt. Holyoke because their fifth score was used as a tie-breaker."
The Orchards is one of the premier courses in western Massachusetts. "It was really fun to play the Orchards because it was the site of the U.S. Women's Open this summer," said Sullivan.
Sullivan once again led the Jeffs, finishing in 22nd place overall with scores of 86-88-174. The rest of the team was not far behind, however. Sarah Harper '07 finished just one stroke behind Sullivan and earned 25th place overall. In third place for the team was Emily Foran '04, who tied for 31st place just six strokes behind Harper.
First-year Ali Berman followed suit, only three strokes behind, finishing in 36th. "Berman had a great round on Saturday (88) even though it was her first time playing the course," said Sullivan. Rounding out the Jeffs' scoring was senior co-captain Sarah Godwin in 45th place and a 100-92-192.
"Overall I think we had a good showing ... The course played really tough this weekend with thick rough and hard greens so we can't really get down on ourselves," said Sullivan.
The Jeffs will compete in the Wellesley Invitational, a tournament composed primarily of Div. III schools. "We have the opportunity to see how we match up," said Sullivan.
