With Honors: Jay Wagstaff '05 and Erin Murphy '05
By Nick Michlewicz, Staff Writer
Jay Wagstaff '05

Just call him "Instant Offense" Wagstaff. The star senior wideout returned a punt for a touchdown and hauled in a deep bomb for another score, singlehandedly beating Colby College's offensive output with 215 all-purpose yards. After torching the White Mules for a 54-yard touchdown reception off of a first half flea flicker, Wagstaff received a punt early in the second half with Amherst down 10-7 and instantaneously gave the Jeffs the lead on a 64-yard return. The White Mules just couldn't get their hands around the slippery wideout.

Erin Murphy '05

With two of the women's tennis team's top players-Rachel Holt '05 and Alicia Menezes '08-in Florida for the ITA National Championship, Amherst was short-handed for the New England Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT). Senior quad-captain Murphy helped minimize Amherst's disadvantage by winning the fourth-singles title, beating Bowdoin's Kristen Raymond 6-2, 7-6 (3), in the finals. She also helped out Amherst by advancing to the semifinals at second doubles with Laura Stein '08. Thanks in no small part to Murphy, Amherst took third.
