Game of the Week: Football vs. Williams College
The "Biggest Little Game in America" returns to Pratt Field this weekend in the 119th meeting between the Lord Jeffs and the Williams College Ephs. Amherst comes into the game after tough losses to Tufts University and to Trinity College. Williams' lone loss this season came against Trinity early in the year. The Jeffs will be led on offense by three seniors: quarterback Marsh Moseley, tailback Fletcher Ladd and wide receiver Jay Wagstaff. Ladd is having a tremendous senior season, leading the NESCAC with 958 rushing yards on only 150 carries (6.4 yards per carry). The defense is anchored by linebackers Michael Salvatore '05, Justin Roemer '06 and defensive back Rob Walsh '05. Walsh is looking to make history this Saturday; he is just one interception shy of the Amherst single-season record of six. Inside linebacker Salvatore and outside linebacker Roemer have been stellar against the run this season, accumulating 66 and 67 tackles, respectively. Williams tailback Tim Crawley leads the Eph offense. He is first in the NESCAC in all-purpose yards per game with 185.3. Quarterback Sean Gleeson has proved a capable replacement for two-time NESCAC Player of the Year Joe Reardon. Gleeson's completion percentage is not gaudy, but he is efficient, having thrown six touchdown passes and five interceptions this season. Lineback Wes Connors leads the Eph defense with 53 tackles and 4.5 sacks. The Homecoming game should be another classic act in the rivalry.
