Game of the Week: Women's Basketball vs. Bowdoin College
By Laura Turner, Sports Editor
The women's basketball team, ranked fifth in the NESCAC standings, will face its greatest challenge of the season on Saturday when the Jeffs host the Bowdoin College Polar Bears. Bowdoin is on top of the NESCAC and currently holds the top spot in Div. III polls. Rookie Matia Kostakis leads the Jeffs in points this season, followed by Jenny Muller '07, Katie Latham '06 and co-captain Krissy Morin '06. The Jeffs are hoping that the momentum they gained by beating Connecticut College last weekend will carry over to Saturday. However, the Amherst women will see some tough competition from Eileen Flaherty, ranked third in the conference in scoring and last week's NESCAC Player of the Week. Polar Bear rookie Marisa Berne earned co-NESCAC Player of the Week honors two weeks ago after averaging 13 points per game in Bowdoin's defeats of Bates College and Tufts University.
