The women's squash team sent its top two players, captain Ashley Harmeling '05 and Caroline Shannon '07, to compete in the Holleran Cup at the College Squash Association (CSA) Women's Championships at Dartmouth College last weekend.

Shannon fell in the first round to Kelsey Engman of Bates College, but rebounded to defeat Franklin and Marshall College's Jessie Mitchell in three games. In the second round, she lost to the eventual consolation champion, Kendell Anders of Dension University.

Harmeling ended her Amherst squash career with a flourish, first defeating Mitchell and then avenging Shannon's loss to Engman in the second round. The senior won both matches in three games. In the quarterfinals, Harmeling faced a more difficult opponent, seventh-seeded Anina Nolan of Princeton University. Although Harmeling was able to pull out the victory in four hard-fought games, the fatigue affected her in the next round ,and she lost to Lauren McCrery of Yale University.

Despite the disappointment of losing in the semifinals, Harmeling was able to look back on her senior year, in which she led the Jeffs to a 12-8 record and the 11th-place ranking, with satisfaction. "I came close to taking games off people in the top 10 in the country, which is really good for me," said Harmeling.

Although the Jeffs will be without both Harmeling and fellow captain Ali Gibbs, they return a strong lineup who will look to crack the top 10 nationally behind the leadership of Shannon and six other returning starters.
