Last Chance, sets new College marks
Men's Track
Senior Matt Katz took an impressive ninth in the mile with 4:21, but the truly noteworthy story from this weekend was the men's distance medley relay. The DMR team of seniors Mike Page and Jack Morgan and sophomores Sam Hayman and John Babbott took second. Their time of 10:00.54 broke the College record by an incredible five seconds and earned them an automatic qualification to Nationals. All of the runners involved set personal records by several seconds. Last year was the first time in five years that the men's team sent anyone to Nationals, and the DMR team took sixth. According to Morgan, sending a team in this event two years in a row is very rare. "It doesn't happen all that often, especially in the Northeast," he said. "For those of us that are involved, it's pretty astounding."
Women's Track
The women's DMR team came home victorious as the individuals on the relay turned in stellar performances as well. Senior Carter Hamill sped through the mile to win the event in under five minutes and earn a provisional qualification to Nationals. Junior Ginger Polich blazed through the 600-meter race, taking first place with a 1:36.19 finish and setting a College record. First-year Heather Wilson took home a victory in the 5000-meter. Sophomore Shauneen Garrahan, Polich, Wilson and Hamill teamed up to win the women's DMR in 11:58.85, earning a provisional qualification to Nationals.
Earlier this season, senior Lee-Jay Henry became the first Jeff to finish the 55-meter hurdles in under nine seconds. This weekend, she continued her impressive hurdles season by again finishing the 55-meter in under nine seconds-twice-first in the preliminaries and then in the finals. Henry ended up taking home sixth place in the event. Garrahan took second in the 800-meter run in 2:13.81, setting a College record and earning herself an automatic qualification to Nationals. In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Hannah Campbell tied for eighth place at 26.82. Campbell was followed less than a second later by junior Lyndsey Scott, who took home 16th.
