Game of the Week: Men's Tennis vs. Middlebury College
By Bill Nahill, Sports Editor
After losing a tough showdown against Williams College on Saturday, Amherst will look to come back with a victory against defending NESCAC champion Middlebury College. The Panthers return four of six singles players from last year's squad, making them the prohibitive favorite to repeat as NESCAC champs. The Jeffs have formidible weapons of their own, however, as five of six singles starters from last season's fifth-place squad are back, including Josh Rilla '06 and Danny Babkes '06, who played numbers one and two last year, respectively. Amherst also brought in a strong recruiting class this season, including sophomore transfer Lenny Lepner, who currently plays third singles. Five first-years also contribute, most notably Jeff Wan, Geoff Schwartz and Michael Mintz. The Jeffs' NESCAC schedule will continue with games against Bowdoin College and Tufts University on Saturday and Tuesday, respectively.
