Game of the Week: Women's Soccer at Bates College
By Bill Nahill, Sports Editor
Last year's defense of the 2003 NESCAC women's soccer championship came to a shocking and disappointing halt when the second-seeded Jeffs were upset by seventh-seeded Connecticut College in the opening round of the NESCAC Tournament. This season the squad is determined to enact revenge and may very well have the talent to do it. The team returns its entire backfield and standout goalie Piper Crowell '07, who finished second in the NESCAC in save percentage last season. The team will have to address serious questions on the offensive end, however, as its top three goal-scorers from last year graduated. All told, the team will have to replace half of its scoring from the 2004 season. After defeating conference doormat Trinity College last week, Amherst will face its first test of the season against Bates College on Saturday.
