Game of the Week: Field Hockey at Williams College
By Laura Turner, Sports Editor
This is a critical week for the field hockey team. A win in this afternoon's game against Connecticut College will earn the Jeffs a spot in the NESCAC Tournament. If the Jeffs fall today, Saturday's match-up against Williams College will be even more important: A Jeff win would not only secure a NESCAC berth, but if the seventh-ranked Jeffs defeat the third-ranked Ephs, there will likely be another showdown between the archrivals in the first round of NESCACs on Sunday. Though Amherst has lost its last four games, the Jeffs have a habit of coming into their own at the last minute. Unfortunately, last season concluded with an overtime loss to the Ephs, 2-1, in which Eph Susan Shea scored the game-winning tally. Shea is the twin sister of Amherst midfielder Carolyn Shea '08, which makes this contest more personal than usual. With any luck, the Jeffs will rewrite history this week with a win over Williams.
