At the Pioneer Valley Classic last weekend, the senior forward/center took home all-tournament honors in a career day. Smith dropped 23 points, grabbed eight rebounds and was a perfect 5-5 from the line en route to an Amherst victory against challenger Westfield State College. In what proved to be a true demonstration of perserverence and steadfast determination, Smith helped to end a four-game losing skid for the Jeffs by dominating the hardwood on Saturday. She will get an opportunity to again showcase her skills in the coming week when Amherst plays host to Skidmore and Smith Colleges.

This weekend signified the turning point in the men's swimming and diving team's ability to compete for the NESCAC title as they faced rival and worthy conference foe Middlebury College. The first-year wasted no time in asserting himself as a dominant force to be reckoned with. In a stroke of pure genius, Witzke swam to a trio of first-place finishes in the 1,000- and 500-yard individual freestyle events as well as the 400-yard freestyle relay. Luckily for the Jeffs, Witzke will only get better as the season goes on and his conditioning and performance continue to improve.
