The track and field team asserted itself as one of the best in New England, winning several individual and relay events in Saturday's Tartan Classic at Smith College. Emerging first-year star Zandra Walton highlighted the leaderboard for the Jeffs as she scampered to victories in 600-meter run and the 4x800-meter relay. Walton's performance was a continuation of her dominance in the mid-distance events this season. As the regular season is coming to a close, she is making sure that her team-as well as her competitors-knows that Walton will be a dominant force in the upcoming championship meets.

The Ephs of Williams College once won a record 63-straight men's basketball games at Chandler Arena. But that impressive streak was but a distant memory as the Jeffs crushed them by 28 points. While the superb play of Amherst was paramount in the victory, a large Jeff constituency followed the team to Williamstown to cheer them on. Chandler was dominated by purple and white, not the usual purple and yellow. Things got so ugly for the hosts that Jeff fans began to cheer for them out of pity. If Amherst's sixth man continues to show up en masse, the men's team could go deep into March.
