Senior forward John Casnocha knows how to deliver under pressure. In the NESCAC Championship game against Tufts University on Sunday, he contributed 14 points, six boards and two blocks to the Jeffs' tally. But Casnocha's real heroic moment came late in the contest when he saved the day for the Jeffs. With the game clock ticking down to within 30 seconds, and the Jumbos leading by a point, Casnocha caught a pass from guard Andrew Olson '08, barely beat the shot clock and gave Amherst a two-point lead with an NBA-range bomb. The Jeffs will be looking to Casnocha for key contributions in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
• Rick Estacio '06
Senior tri-captain Rick Estacio was in his element this weekend. Together with teammates John Ancona '06 and Ethan Treat '07, Estacio led the Amherst campaign at the NESCAC Championships at Williams College. He set the meet record in the 50-yard backstroke in the preliminary trials, garnered an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships with a second-place posting in the 100-yard backstroke and picked up a provisional qualifier in the 200-yard backstroke. With his talent and his top-notch showing in recent weeks, Estacio will be leaving opponents in his wake at nationals.
