GAME OF THE WEEK: Women's Soccer vs. Bates College-NESCAC semi-finals
By Mary Doris Reggie, sports editor
This Saturday, the top-seeded women's soccer team will be up against sixth-seeded Bates College as the Jeffs host the NESCAC Final Four. After having a bye in the first round of the playoffs, Amherst is well-rested. The Jeffs, however, will likely need all the energy they can muster against Bates, who showed impressive endurance while prevailing over Tufts University in overtime during last weekend's first-round match-up. Bobcat Mary Bucci earned recognition as NESCAC Player of the Week after scoring both of Bates' goals on Saturday. The last time the Jeffs met the Bobcats was Sept. 16, a game Amherst won on a goal and an assist from junior forward Katie Coffey. A win over Bates would not only extend the Jeffs' winning steak to seven games, but would also advance the team to the NESCAC finals, which will be played on Amherst's Hitchcock Field.
