Piper Pettersen's swimming career at Amherst has been more than impressive and last weekend she added to that list of achievements. She helped the Jeffs place second in the NESCAC Championships, and her 400-meter relay team qualified for nationals this season. At the end of the tournament she was honored as the highest career point winner for a graduating senior. Piper was named Four-Year High Point Swimmer for her performance over the years, including six top-three finishes at this year's championship. Next weekend Piper will go to her last NCAA Tournament and will most definitely make a big splash.
•Caitlin McDermott-Murphy
In the Jeffs' strong third-place finish at the University of Southern Maine this past Saturday, sophomore Caitlin McDermott-Murphy was involved in two of the Jeffs' three outright victories. Murphy ran a leg of the meet-opening distance medley relay, helping the Jeffs to a resounding first-place finish. Her blazingly fast 5:06 in the 1600 was a break through in an already solid season. She also ran a strong leg of the final event of the meet, the 4x800 relay, coming from behind for the victory. Individually, Murphy placed third in the 800-meter run.
