Tri-captain Shauneen Garrahan '07 performed what some might consider an inhuman feat this weekend at the NCAA Championship meet. She put up the best time in the preliminary round of the mile run, and then ran even faster to anchor the third-place distance medley relay team. The next day, Garrahan raced a mile even faster yet to place third individually. Later that day she entered the 5,000-meter run against runners who were racing with fresh legs. Garrahan still finished second, earning All-American honors for the third time at the meet.
•Brittany Sasser
In just her junior season, Brittany Sasser has helped the Amherst women's swim team achieve its highest standing. In the National Championship last weekend, Sasser led the Jeffs to a second place finish. Her strong performance earned her recognition as Swimmer of the Meet. She set the new national record in the 100-yard backstroke and bested her time from two weeks ago to lower the 200-yard backstroke mark. Sasser also anchored the 800-yard freestyle relay team, which set yet another national record.
