EVENT OF THE WEEK: Gooding Field Dedication
By Mary Doris Reggie, Sports Editor
This Saturday Amherst will formally dedicate its new turf field to Peter Gooding in honor of his extensive commitment to the Amherst Athletic Department. Originally hired as head coach of the men's soccer team, Gooding went on to serve as Director of Athletics for 28 years. He will officially retire from the College in 2008.

Gooding's wife, Myra, was also a valued Amherst employee for many years and has been extremely supportive of Gooding and his teams. Current and former athletes will gather at the dedication ceremony to hear remarks from President Tony Marx and current Director of Athletics Suzanne Coffey. There will be a reception at 5:30 under the pavillion at Gooding Field.

In addition to the dedication ceremony and honorary reception on Saturday, Amherst will take on Bowdoin College in field hockey, football and men's and women's soccer.
