Libby Martin ’08—Women’s Squash

Senior co-captain Libby Martin has proved to be a force on the squash courts. During Little Three Championships this past Saturday, she contributed to a Jeff win over the Wesleyan Cardinals, allowing her opponent only five points over the course of the entire match. Her victory Saturday—in what was her final home match as a Jeff—followed a hard-fought win over Tufts University that lasted longer than an hour and a half.

Martin’s play from the number-two spot has helped Amherst jump to 16th place in the national rankings released by the Collegiate Squash Association.

Rob Stevenson ’08—Men’s Ice Hockey

Senior co-captain Rob Stevenson’s first goal of the season couldn’t have come at a better time. As a defender, scoring is not Stevenson’s main objective on the ice.

But last Saturday against Bowdoin College, he netted his first score just when the Jeffs needed him to, scoring the game-winner in Amherst’s 3-2 upset of the 11th-ranked Polar Bears.

Taking a pass from teammate Jack Baer ’10, he skated to just inside the blue line, before firing the puck home at the 7:32 mark of the third period. The win brought the Jeffs’ overall season record to 11-6-3.
