The men and women’s indoor track team competed against schools from all over New England, including Div. I opponents, at the Tufts Invitational this past Saturday.

Men

The Jeffs had their most success in the distance events. In the 3,000-meter run, Amherst stole the show, as first-year Peter Harrison’s time of 8:47.15 placed him first overall. Harrison narrowly edged out a pair of Boston College runners for the win. Another first-year, John McGrail and sophomore Eric Holaday also finished under nine minutes to earn fifth and eighth places, respectively.

In the 5,000-meter run, the Jeffs had another first-place finisher, as Peter Foote ’09 ran a time of 15:28.19, nine seconds ahead of a Williams rival.

Mike Harbus ’09 made his mark in the mile run, finishing 12th in a 42-man field. In the men’s 55-meter dash, the Jeffs lone participant, Anthony Fuller ’09 finished 13th.

Women

In the 5,000-meter run, Kim Partee ’08 ran unchallenged for a relaxing Amherst win in the event. Elise Tropiano ’09 and Heather Wilson ’08 stayed strong together during the 3,000-meter run, taking second and third places, respectively. Both Liz Dalton ’09 and Cate Knuff ’10, fifth and sixth places, respectively, ran personal bests in the event.

For the sprinters, Carly Levenson ’09 finished fourth with a season best in the 400-meter dash. In the 800-meter run, Zandra Walton ’09 ran her personal best to a sixth-place finish. Levenson and Walton then ran in the 4x800-meter relay, consisting also of Mary Doris Reggie ’10 and Hoiwan Cheung ’10, bringing the team to a third-place finish.

Kate Silverman ’09 ran a season best in the 55-meter hurdles before anchoring the 4x400 meter “A” relay. The team, which also included Emily Dick ’11, Jennifer Rybak ’10 and Mariana Palacios ’09, ran to a third-place finish. First-year Zoe Pagonis ’11 continued the strong performances by running personal bests in both the 55-meter hurdles and the 800-meter races.
