Women
At Smith College, the women displayed some of the top individual performances of the season. In the first event of the day, senior tri-captain Heather Wilson made an amazing comeback in the last leg of the distance medley. She teamed up with Jenny Mancino ’09, Kristen Ballinger ’11 and Elise Tropiano ’09 to win first place. Wilson had another early victory in the 3,000-meter run, and Tropiano followed closely with a third place finish. Kim Partee ’08 took an easy first place in the 5,000-meter run. In the 600-meter run, Carly Levenson ’09 and Mary Doris Reggie ’10 finished within one second of each other’s times to claim second and third places, respectively.
The team considered the 4x400-meter relay a “bittersweet” event. A Williams College runner knocked the baton out of junior Kate Silverman’s hand in the second leg of the race, but the other three runners ran times that suggested great future potential.
Men
The men did not earn any individual wins at Tufts University, but the team performed respectably overall. In the 3,000-meter run, Mike Harbus took fourth place while Peter Foote ’09 finished seventh. They both ran personal bests and placed high enough to add to the team score. In the mile, Jimmy Swanson ’10 ran close to his best individual time, and John McGrail ’11 broke his personal record.
Senior tri-captain Basile Beaty and Eric Holaday ’10 had solid performances by placing 12th in the 600- and 3,000-meter runs, respectively. Peter Harrison ’11 battled his way to 14th place with a time of 2:35.90 in the 1,000-meter run, giving his best in spite of recovering from a sinus infection. Steve Shashy ’08 showed considerable leadership in 4x400 relay and recorded his fastest split of the season.
