Game of the Week: Men’s Ice Hockey vs. Middlebury College
By Jasmine Yang, Sports Editor
The Jeffs head into the NESCAC semifinals seeded fourth against Middlebury College, which is ranked second. Amherst just managed to skid by Connecticut College, 3-2, in overtime this past Saturday. Senior Mike McIntosh received Player of the Week honors for scoring the game-winning goal against the Camels.

Junior Joel Covelli tops Amherst’s list as a leading scorer with 11 goals and 24 assists so far in the season. Senior co-captain Kyle Schoppel has also been a valuable contributor to scoring and assisting, consistently performing strongly for the Jeffs.

However, Middlebury will provide tough competition, as the Panthers defeated the Jeffs 4-2 at their last meeting on Feb. 22. Tom Maldonado ’08, in particular, scored three goals, and lately Charlie Townsend ’10 has been a leading scorer for the Panthers. Amherst faces a challenging NESCAC semifinal but, with good efforts all around, the Jeffs could earn a spot in the finals.
