Director's Cup Update
By Peter Stein, Sports Editor
After finishing the fall season fifth in the Director’s Cup standings, the Jeffs have moved up to second place, surpassing rival Williams College. With 647 points, the Jeffs trail only Washington University in St. Louis.

With the successful winter season, the Jeffs amassed a total 356 points, 16.75 more than they won last winter. Leading the way for the Jeffs were the men’s basketball team and the women’s swimming and diving team. Both teams finished second in the nation, earning 90 points each. Men’s swimming and diving contributed another 67.5 points with their 10th-place finish, and the women’s basketball team, which finished in ninth place, earned 64 points. Amherst’s two other tournament teams, the women’s hockey team and the women’s track and field team, garnered the Jeffs an additional 25 points and 19.5 points, respectively.

With a successful spring season, Amherst could not only maintain its 30-point lead on Williams, but also pace Wash U. for first place. With several teams looking competitive, the Jeffs have a strong shot to take home the Cup.
