This past weekend, first-year singles player Laken King clinched the match point for the Jeffs in the NESCAC Championships. King won her No. 4 singles match in a three-setter, battling back from being down 6-4 in the second set, to capture the fourth straight NESCAC title for Amherst.
In the Jeffs’ last meeting against their archrivals, the Ephs, King had also fought back from a tough loss in the first set to win her singles match. King has had an outstanding rookie season so far and can be counted upon to step up her game in pressure situations.
Neal Allar ’08—Baseball
Senior co-captain and centerfielder Neal Allar gave a stellar performance in Sunday’s doubleheader against St. Michael’s College, recording five RBIs.
Allar’s leadership this season has lived up to his impressive resume. Last year, Allar was selected to the All-NESCAC Second Team, NEIBA All-New England Second Team, and earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors.
Allar ranks first among the Jeffs in the number of hits made and earned runs, and is second with four home runs on the record. With a 0.371 batting average, Allar is a leading presence on the batter’s plate as well as in the field.
