Game of the Week: Football vs. Hamilton College
By Morgan Toy, Sports Editor
The first match of the season will kick off this Saturday, with the Jeffs fielding a formidable defense and a talented offensive line. The season opener will determine if Amherst can fill its major weak point at quarterback. For the second consecutive season, the Jeffs lack experience in the quarterback position. Possible frontrunners include sophomores Alex Vetras, who will begin the season as the starter, and Dan Pozner.

Despite the lack of an experienced quarterback, expect a strong offense, as Eric NeSmith ’09 and Aaron Rauh ’10 return to give Amherst one of the NESCAC’s strongest running games. On the defensive end, senior captain Guy Matisis leads a veteran defensive squad.

The game should go in Amherst’s favor and be a good war for the team to gain momentum for the remainder of the year. Hamilton possesses a strong defense, headlined by lineman Taylor Soobitsky ’09 and linebackers Trevor Pedrick ’09 and John Lawrence ’10.
