Game of the Week: Football vs. Trinity College
The Jeffs face their toughest challenge yet against perennial-powerhouse Trinity College this weekend. Although Trinity is undefeated so far, it has appeared vulnerable at times. Amherst has a good chance to pull off the upset and take over first place in the NESCAC.
The Jeffs will again rely on offensive production from quarterback Alex Vetras ’11. If Vetras has trouble finding open receivers, expect him to lean on junior running back Aaron Rauh. As always, Amherst’s defense, led by senior captain Guy Matisis, should be solid.
Trinity’s quest for an undefeated season largely rests on the shoulders of quarterback Eric McGrath ’09, who has thrown 30 touchdowns this year. The Bantams also boast one of the NESCAC’s strongest running games, headed by junior running backs Oliver Starnes and Bobby Jackson. If the Jeffs find a way to beat Trinity, all that stands in their way of a conference championship is a Homecoming showdown with Williams College.
