Players of the Week: Christy Meier ’12 & Lennard Kovacs ’12

Christy Meier ’12—Volleyball

Rookie outside hitter Christy Meier helped the Jeffs take back-to-back victories over Williams College this past week.

She tallied a career-high 20 kills against the Ephs on Oct. 21. in Williamstown, Mass. In the Hall of the Fame Classic Tournament three days later, this time at home, Meier made the set-winning kill to help the Jeffs clinch their second consecutive win over the Ephs.

Meier has compiled an impressive list of statistics for the Jeffs’ offense. She leads Amherst and ranks fourth in the NESCAC in number of kills per game (3.12). Meier also sits in 11th place in hitting percentage (0.257).

Lennard Kovacs ’12—Men’s Soccer

Goalkeeper Lennard Kovacs ’12 has performed at an impressive level as the Jeffs’ last line of defense this season. Thanks to a strong Amherst defense, Kovacs made three saves this past Saturday to help the Jeffs to a 2-1 victory over archrival Williams College, improving Amherst’s overall record to 8-3-1.

Kovacs has provided solid defense all year for the Jeffs. He was named NESCAC Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 6 after posting two shutouts. He currently ranks fifth in the NESCAC in save percentage (0.838) and holds third place for goals-against average (0.70).
