Only five NESCAC student-athletes have earned the honor prior to Landers, four of them from eight-time national champion Middlebury; Landers is only the second NESCAC player to earn the award since 1999.
As the Jeffs’ sole captain Landers led the team to its first ever NESCAC Championship the program’s first ever NCAA tournament victory before falling in an overtime heartbreaker in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Junior forward Kate Dennett had a headlining game, scoring two key goals, including the “sudden victory” overtime gamewinner, in the women’s ice hockey national championship victory.
Dennett’s first goal gave Amherst its first lead when she slammed a redirect home 15:16 into the second period. Twelve minutes into the overtime period, Dennett beat a defender with a brilliant bit of skating to make her initial shot. The shot was blocked but Dennett followed through and poked in the rebound to take the national championship. For her outstanding performance in, Dennett was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
