Leading the team was sophomore star player Hayley Milbourn, who clinched seventh place in the tournament with a score of 245 — only 29 strokes above par. A talented trio of first-years also contributed to the Jeffs’ final standing. Laura Monty ’12, hitting 253, claimed 17th place, and fellow rookie Elaine Lin took 37th by scoring 262. Nina Yoo ’12 rounded out the team’s performance to hit 267 for 54th place.
“Our spring season has gotten off to a great start,” said Yoo. “We have a pretty small team in the spring, but this close-knit environment has helped us get to know each other better. Our goals this season are to build on our fall performance and continue to grow as a team.”
Yoo then added, “Individually, I was disappointed in my performance at Jekyll Island. I wish I had played better, but the trip allowed me to recognize what I needed to work on for the remainder of the season. As a team, we were satisfied with our finish being such a small team and one of the only teams from the north. Jekyll Island was our first tournament of the spring season and a 5th place finish was a great starting point. I am excited for our two assistant coaches and senior member Amanda Otieno to join us for the rest of the season.”
The Jeffs will have another chance to improve upon their drives, chips and putts when they tee off next weekend at Vassar College. The women appear to be transitioning without any hitches from the fall to spring season and look to the upcoming Massachusetts State Championships on April 17.
