Milbourne finished second to Wellesley Collages’s Kimberley Eaton shooting a 160 to Eaton’s 155. Milbourne’s finish was essential, as her 160 placed her only one stroke ahead of runner-up Middlebury’s Courtney Mazzei. With only a two-stroke differential between Amherst and Middlebury, Milbourne’s victory was key to the Jeffs victory.
Milbourne has been a significant presence for the women’s team since coming to Amherst, and she will likely continue her strong performance over the remainder of the season.
Freshman Laura Danzig took the clinching victory for the Jeffs in a 5-4 win over Bowdoin College, avenging a loss to the Polar Bears in last year’s NCAA tournament.
The Jeffs started singles play behind 2-1 after doubles matches had concluded. A series of strong singles matches from the Jeffs gave the Jeffs a small lead, 4-3, with two matches to play.
Danzig, in the #6 singles spot, rallied after losing the first set 4-6 to take the win with 6-1, 6-2 wins to clinch the matdh for the Jeffs. Danzig’s rookie performance bodes well for the furture of the women’s tennis program.
