By Morgan Toy '11, Sports Editor
Sophomore Hayley Milbourn finished first individually to lead the Jeffs as they took the 2009 Jack Leaman Invitational.

Milbourn shot 79 on Saturday to start the tournament before posting a tournament-best 75 on Sunday to take the individual title with a 154. Milbourn edged Middlebury’s Julie Ellenberger by four strokes.

Strong performances from Milbourne have been key to the Jeffs’ victories all season long. The Jeffs have won three other events this year beside Sunday’s win. In each one, Milbourn was the Jeffs’ top finisher and never placed outside the top three.

Sophomore Natasha Brown contributed key wins in singles and doubles in the sixth-ranked Jeffs’ 5-4 upset of top-ranked Williams.

Brown started the day in a tough battle at the No. 1 doubles spot with partner Brittany Berckes. The duo fought Williams’ Cary Gibson and Nikki Reich to a tiebreak. The two teams traded points until finally Brown and Berckes won the tiebreak 9-7 to give the Jeffs a 2-1 advantage.

The extra doubles point from Brown would be crucial, since the Jeffs and Ephs split the six singles mathes. Brown pulled out another close match in singles, winning 2-0 but with a 7-2 tiebreak to take the second game.
