Monty shot an 81 on the first day of the tournament, finshing one stroke ahead of Milbourn. On the second day, Milbourn would shave three strokes off to finish with a 79. Monty had a one-stroke improvement to finish the invitational in a two-way tie for sixth place individually.
Monty’s standout performance bodes well for the future of this young team, whose standouts are primarily underclassmen.
Sophomore pitcher Max McKenna earned his second save of the season in a shutout victory against the sixth-ranked Trinity Bantams.
McKenna took over in the sixth inning for sophomore Pat Harris, who had come in himself as relief for starter sophomore Ryan Healy.
In 3.2 innings, McKenna faced 13 batters. The right-handed pitcher allowed only three hits, one in the sixth and two in the ninth inning and had one walk and one strikeout.
With a 2.90 season ERA, McKenna has the fourth-best earned run average for the 2009 Lord Jeffs.
